LED ZEPPELIN SAID YES: Greta Gerwig’s “Narnia” Trailer Uses “Stairway to Heaven” for the First Time Ever
A lamp post in the snow is one of the most famous images in children’s literature. Now Greta Gerwig is taking audiences back to where it all began. The first trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is out, and it comes with a surprise: Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven”.
According to AP News and Netflix Tudum, this is reportedly the first time the band has licensed the song for a trailer.
Release dates
- IMAX sneak previews: from 10 February 2027.
- In theaters: 12 February 2027.
- On Netflix: 2 April 2027.
The dates were confirmed by Netflix and reported by Variety.
Why start with The Magician’s Nephew?
C.S. Lewis wrote The Magician’s Nephew after The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but it tells the earlier story: how Narnia was created, and how the lamp post came to stand in the woods. Starting here lets Gerwig open the world from its very first day.
Built for the biggest screen
Gerwig has designed the film for IMAX, a big step for a director best known for Lady Bird, Little Women and Barbie. The trailer leans into the scale and wonder of the story.
Why fans are talking
Led Zeppelin has been famously protective of its catalogue, which is why the song choice made headlines almost as quickly as the footage. Paired with a new beginning for Narnia, it has made this one of the most discussed trailers of the year.
